If you're doing SP you should 100% turn on build anywhere and go ham. You can build some incredible bases all over the Wine Cellar or right above the boss spawn in The Dregs. If you can't figure out how to kill the attacking team you can't defend your base. The game is not balanced to defense at all not even a little.

You build where you want to, but FYI jungle isn't a good spot for resources. However you can always build outposts for thralls and such, so main base I think should be where you want it, regardless of other desirable features.
